Benefits of Ocean Observing Catalog (BOOC)
About This Journal
The Benefits of Ocean Observing Catalog (BOOC) documents the benefits of ocean observation, measurement, and forecasting through structured use cases. BOOC organizes these cases for easy searching, browsing, and reporting. The catalog incorporates a GIS viewer which allows users to search for cases geographically. BOOC also includes tools for text searching and allows users to find information in many ways. All cases published in BOOC undergo peer review before acceptance.
BOOC was built on existing software platforms. It combines text and document management from Digital Commons®, a product of Elsevier, with geospatial access and display using the ESRI ArcGIS Experience Builder®.
BOOC is a project of the Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS®) of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and was developed by the Center for the Blue Economy of the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey.
The Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS®) is a national-regional partnership working to provide new tools and forecasts to improve safety, enhance the economy, and protect our environment. Integrated ocean information is available in near real time, as well as retrospectively. Easier and better access to this information is improving our ability to understand and predict coastal events – such as storms, wave heights, and sea level change. Such knowledge is needed for everything from retail to development planning.
The mission at the Center for the Blue Economy is to provide economic and policy analysis that supports the development of a robust and equitable blue economy for the 21st century.
